Kris Martin Tennis Team
Tony, is the father, coach, mentor and lifelong backbone and support for his two tennis boys; Kristofer and Kyle. He is a thrill seeker, adventure lover and tennis enthusiast that relishes the challenge and adventures on and off the court. By nature, Tony's teachings and principles are grounded in his upbringing and British trainings as a professional in management, and these he instilled in his children.
Tony started playing tennis in Port Maria/Ocho Rios, Jamaica during his leisure time. He spent time with many of the amateur and veteran tennis players in Jamaica; such as Jim Hall, Nicholas Malcolm, etc. where he practiced and developed his tennis skills and techniques.
He is a lifelong learner of the sport, and through his children (Kristofer and Kyle) which he has successfully guided to achieve tennis scholarships in the USA, he hopes to inspire other juniors in Jamaica that are willing to use tennis as a vehicle through higher tertiary education.
He currently coaches and mentors juniors along the pathway that has the ambition and eagerness to learn the sport he loves.
Kristofer is a highly disciplined, qualified and experienced tennis performance specialist with a high degree of versatility and an extraordinary work ethic with over 20 years’ experience in the field both locally and internationally.
His father (Tony Martin) introduced him to the sport at three (3) years old and won his first trophy at five (5) years old. Throughout his junior career he represented Jamaica and earned a full scholarship to play at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level for Bethune-Cookman University where he received yearly accolades from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), the Inter-collegiate Tennis Association (ITA), and the B-CU athletic department for athletic and academic excellence.
He also holds and maintains certifications with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the International Tennis Performance Association (iTPA), United States Tennis Association (USTA), U.S. Center for SafeSport, and Red Cross.
He is also a member of Tennis Jamaica (the governing body of tennis in Jamaica) where he served as Treasurer on the Executive Board, a proud member of the PTR and the iTPA, the largest global organization of tennis teachers and coaches, and the leader in tennis-specific performance and education worldwide.
Kristofer seeks to inspire and motivate players of all ages and levels to bring out their maximum potential. His vision is to ultimately promote health and well-being through tennis and his mission is to embrace the uniqueness and worth of each player and provide individualized quality instruction to ensure his clients improvement in tennis while maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
Kyle is an ambitious and creative dream chaser with a passion for tennis since six (6) years old. His father (Tony Martin) introduced him to tennis in the parking lot, and this motivated him to train and play competitively which led him to win his first trophy at nine (9) years old.
He competed throughout his junior career locally and internationally and held the number one ranking in Jamaica from the under 10's to the under 18's category.
At age 12, he joined the Wolmer's Boys' High School tennis team and was the first student-athlete to win the National High School Competition in his first year.
This earned him a spot on the Wolmers Boys' School Hall of Fame and he represented Jamaica in the U14 World Junior Championships. He then went on to win the National High School Championships for three (3) more years, runner up in one year, and MVP player in one year.
In the year 2014, he became one of only three Jamaicans in 15 years to win both the Under 16's and 18's All Jamaica Junior Championship titles. He was also the number one seeded player to represent Jamaica at the Junior Davis Cup in Dominican Republic.
While preparing for college tennis at 15 years old, he played singles and doubles events with his brother (Kristofer Martin) in the local Men's tournaments where they had beaten the best doubles teams in the country; some consisting of Davis Cup players.
He then earned a tennis scholarship to play at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level for Howard University where he was successful academically and athletically and achieved the following awards:
2018, 2019 - Named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis All-Academic Team.
2019 - Picked as a Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Scholar Athlete,
2019, 2021 - Named to the MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team
Kyle is a passionate player of the sport in the family, he has been through the footsteps of his father and brother and has made successful strides along the tennis pathway and his journey thus far in life. As another proven product of what can be achieved, he hopes to continue inspiring other ambitious tennis players in Jamaica from time to time as a hitting partner and mentor to encourage other juniors to work hard and also strive to achieve scholarships and be successful student athletes.
